Hope to be getting a new 1 gigabit switch for my network shortly. Mostly short network cable runs (less than 10 mtrs) but one long run of about 25 mtrs to upstairs.
Can anyone advise about which would be the correct ethernet cable to use for all?
Many thanks,
JB.
I'd go future-proof and use Cat6, JB.
Thanks Rik. Is there another even faster standard that Cat6 has been designed for? It just confuses me that Cat5 seems adequate for one gigabit which is the fastest speed I've seen so far.
Cat5 *can* negotiate gigabit speeds, but cat6 is required to generally operate at full gigabit speeds. Quality varies of course.
Thanks esh.
