Title: Virgin Router
Post by: tehidyman on Nov 14, 2010, 17:11:36
Looking for a Netgear DG 834G v4 I came across one for sale in a Virgin Broadband box.  Can they be locked and if so is it straightforward to unlock?

I think any router can be locked with custom firmware. The usual cure is to install a standard firmware.

This http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,88732.0.html/ tends to imply that the Virgin routers aren't locked ( although that was a v5 model ).

Have proceeded but I now need to get into the Netgear setup display to make the necessary changes for IDnet but the usual essential user name and password on Netgear routers does not work. As I cannot get on line with it I do not see how to install the standard firmware which I have located to download. Have reinstalled my alternative netgear to post.  :hlp:

OK by Googleing I found a post which told me the password I need is on the label on the back
