I've just noticed my iPhone is saying it's 2:35 in the morning, on Sunday 14th November! Is anyone else on O2, and having the wrong time showing when time setting is set to Auto?
Maybe it's in a rush to get to the Cenotaph
Isn't there some sort of issue with certain versions of the firmware.
I had a problem too this morning. My alarm was set for 6:15am but Nicky woke me when hers went off at 7:15. When I looked at my phone, it also said Sunday 14th, 8:03am.
Needless to say, I've now taken the time off set automatically. Must be something O2 have done to their time server.
I think the known problems in the firmware was to do with the clocks changing but recurring alarms not changing so people were being woken an hour late.
Just like Sky boxes used to do.

Thanks Lance, at least I know it's not just mine. It's buggered up all my tasks too, which are now all marked as late.

Indeed, but that didn't affect me.
Didn't know O2 opertated an NTP server for use of mobile terminals.
I think Vodafone have a time server too, don't they?
Pass, probably to sequence the network but didn't think it was accessible client side.
I'm sure I have a Vodafone PAYG backup phone which self sets. I shall have to test. :)

Nope you are you setting it wrong
Apple Live Different ;D
It's not the alarm that's the problem, Glenn. The time and date is totally wrong, but only when set to Auto. :dunno:

Don't know if its NTP. Something I like on my work HTC phone is that when I go abroad it automatically sets the time to the right timezone.
I have endeavoured to study the standards for GSM and W-CDMA but everything is described in so much detail I suspect I'd be too old to care by the time I'd finished.
I already am. ;)
;D
This actually quite a serious bug and might well explain why my daughter who lives by her iPhone is been running late for things this week.

Bit late on this one my iPhone 3 gs 4.01 is at the correct time set on auto , whether is was wrong earlier I've no idea. I always let previous phones on 02 pick up the network time automatically.

Very careless programming, even Microsoft manages to get the clock changes right.
Bit of a weak excuse for being late isn't it?
Oh yeah sorry boss I'm late because my mobile time was wrong.
I use my TV with a manually set clock plus a radio to make sure I get up.
I use one of these strange devices, I believe they are called alarm clocks.
Seems to be a problem with 4.1, but I don't know why it's only manifested today.
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2592937
Bloody thing! First it won't make phone calls, now it can't tell the time!
That's the curious thing, isn't it. The clocks changed 10 days ago.
Indeed, and it's been right since then, till this afternoon. :dunno:
I wonder if it was 255 hours after the change?
Sorry, did I miss something? Why would that be significant?
One byte... I'm just wondering if their time change programming could be out by 8 bits or 256 hours. That would possibly produce a change at 10 days and 12 hours after the correct time.
That'd be really taking the bit now wouldn't it :out:
Right between the teeth, Mitch.

And so will my daughter, as from tomorrow :)

We think it might have lost the hour sometime yesterday, or the day before as it now.
In my case, it's three days and about ten hours fast, Zap, so I don't think it's the BST bug. :dunno:
Must be the time source then.
No, it's been documented on the Apple forums, from people in different time zones to me, so unless that's a coincidence, it looks like an iPhone bug.

My alarm was an hour out here, the time is spot on though as thats updated by the carrier. If you turn auto update of time off the problem is mitigated until the release of 4.2 which is due very soon.

Perhaps it's down to the provider. AFAIK my phone has been correct in that respect, it certainly is now. I think in our case it's just the alarms are off.

I suppose it's programming. These things carry over at the worst of times. Perhaps the repeating alarms on a 7 or 10 day cycle. So it does not break until the cycle is restarted. (I'm thinking 3 days of one week plus 7 of the other. It only broke when a full week passed)
Although I'm on O2 I can't check but will ask one of my colleagues later who is also on O2 and has an iThing 4
I can't see how it can be the carrier, as other people, not on O2, have had the same issue, and wouldn't it affect all phones on O2?

Its repeat alarms like weekly etc oddly ones for the weekends work ok all my daily ones that repeat every day work fine its just the one that wakes me up that was an hour out, so just dialled it back an hour till the fix come out, I have sim free iPhone on O2. The time is fine, no issue at all.
I really don't know Simon.

Not seen anyone I know with your issue Simon, its just the alarm that's affected them. :dunno:

Well, that seems firmly to point at hardware not network.
That said, I've just tried switching off 3G, and setting the clock to Auto. It's fine. I then switched back to 3G, and at the moment, it's still fine. Can't explain that one! I still don't see how it could have been the carrier, with people on different networks all over the world affected, but I suspect we'll never know.
I think it's got to be a phone bug and, depending on how the date and time are coded, it may have triggered at a particular value.
I agree, but there still seem to be too many variables for it to be as simple as that.
I wonder if we'll ever know...

Oops. Missed that. Rik to the first post as ever. :P
I need them to lean on, Ben. ;)
