Title: updating programs
Post by: Baz on Nov 07, 2010, 09:04:53
after the recent clean install I had to do I found some programs were out of date so have been in the process of updating them. Now,dont ask me why I did this but on getting all the needed windoze updates I noticed that Internet Explorer was just version 6.......so I tried to get V7  which is what I was using before, only when needed you understand :D

so I d/l it and ran the install but looking after that it still shows as version 6  :dunno:

any ideas

Not really.

IE 7 & 8 will install and run concurrently so I would have though 6 & 7 would. Regardless you should obviously have 7 anyway. The only thing I can think of is try searching for the 7 exe to see if it did install and check add/remove programs for it as well.

Windoze should 1) not offer IE6 via update and 2) if IE6 is installed should offer the latest versions of IE as an update.

IE8 (and 7 if you really must use old browsers) can be found here >> http://www.microsoft.com/uk/windows/internet-explorer/download-ie.aspx

One of the updates will have been KB976002 (unless deselected it installs by default), the browser choice patch http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/what-is-the-browser-choice-update
