Title: First post from phone
Post by: Ted on Nov 04, 2010, 11:09:33
As above, never done it before. Just thought I'd see if it would work for future reference. :)

Congratulations, Ted. Unlike Simon, you didn't make a single spelling or smiley mistake.

HaHa! Been meaning to try it since all the BT outages, just for information really. You know, when you sit here and think "is it just me"  :dunno:

It was pretty easy really and surprisingly quick. I'm using a Blackberry 8700g with upgraded firmware (of course) and Opera mini, no contract, just PAYG.

If you use the wap interface, Ted, it won't consume so much data.  Just add ;wap2 to the end of the URL.  :)

Thanks, Simon. I borrowed this http://www.idnetters.co.uk/forums/index.php?wap2 from the outages thread.

Sorry to be thick but can you use the ;wap2 at the end of all urls, would it be http://www.google.com;wap2  ?

It depends whether the site supports wap, I believe, Ted.

And you know it supports wap... because?

What Rik said, but usually no.  I have the unread posts link bookmarked, and enter the forum that way:

Ok Simon, Thanks. I don't plan on doing too much on the phone, but good to have an emergency backup.  :thumb:

With some sites, you can use m. instead of www. to get their mobile interface, eg, m.crackberry.com or m.marksandspencer.com.

Google use to (may still) automatically use their servers as a proxy to give you a converted mobile version of every site. I cannot remember how to set it up though. It may be automatic when it detects what browser you are using to search google.. However I tend to prefer the HTML versions as the wap ones are horrid.

Oy! Your suppose to promote the forum. ;)

(Good to see you don't promote things that don't work too well. Not that Wap does not work, it's just most phones are more advanced now. It will be a lifesaver for some though, so bad looks aside, it's still useful!)

I use the wap interface here all the time.  It's plain, but I wouldn't say it's horrible, and it saves all that pinching and zooming.  The only time I go into the full site on my phone, is if I need to edit a post.
