I'm looking again at the Nokia C5 as I'll need navigation when I hit the roads next year.
This includes free Ovi maps with turn by turn directions, anyone used it and is it any good.
Decided against a tomtom based on experiences I have read here and elsewhere.
Never used them, Mitch. I can't actually see the point of sat nav on a phone, as the screen keeps going off, or it will quickly drain the battery.
I wouldn't touch a Symbian phone now if you paid me.
Why not get an Android based phone? They include navigation for free.
I've just placed an order for the C5.
Reason I don't go for androids is the same I don't go for an iPhone, I like something that's easily pocketable rather than a slab and I like phones with a keypad.
The iPhone is the most Pocketable phone I've ever had. I've got tomtom on it which works really well.

I have tomtom on mine, must admit I was very impressed
In dedicated Satnavs, I think TomTom definitely have the edge atm, and it should carry to their phone versions.
Well the C5 arrived and the build quality felt like cr*p compared to the 6700 so its going back.
:music: Another one bites the dust :music:

There is not a lot of difference in size between the C5, or Desire Z (it has a slide out keyboard). The C5 is 112 x 46 x 12.6, the Z is 119 x 60.4 x 14.2, but the Z is heavier by 90gms.
I'll have a look next year sometime.
There will be plenty of other options to tempt you by then.
I'm hoping that Sony Ericsson will have come out with something special by then as with the exception of the Nokia 6700 that I have now they seem to build better quality devices than Nokia.
They haven't been that great lately, Mitch. I always look at their new models, but the last good phone I had from them was the K850i. The X-10, which looked promising, turned up with an old version of Android, an extremely frustrating UI, and horrible sound.
Maybe I need to look at Samsung again next.
I don't like them either, but that's just a personal choice, and I believe the Galaxy is very good. :)
Motorola?
:ack: ;D
What about a BlackBerry?
Ah yes.
Do they do nav on the ones with the keypads?
Yes, they all have BlackBerry Maps. There's a new version out soon, with increased memory, and a 5mp camera, but this is the current latest Bold:

I'll have a look after Christmas as O2 now have a PAYG Blackberry plan.
:thumb:
Although, is a PAYG plan best, given that you will presumably be using it for emails, web browsing, GPS, etc, all of which consume data? I'd be more tempted to go for a contract that includes a data allowance, otherwise you might find it costs more that you anticipated.
Might be worthwhile looking at sim only contracts if you want to buy the phone upfront and have a lower monthly cost.
My SIM only contract is £20pm, for more minutes and texts than I could ever use, and unlimited data.
Is that limited unlimited data, or real unlimited data?
As I took out the contract before it changed, mine is real unlimited.
Nice. Keep it a few years then flog it on eBay. ;D
:hehe:
