The ICO cant really do much as the data is stored outside the UK.

It does.

Obama took on a lot of Google employees as advisors which is very concerning.

Personally I think governments should consult average tech savvy users as when all is said and done it is the likes of you and me that has made the 'net what it is today.

Sadly the 'net is such big business these days we are unlikely to be able to reclaim it for the average Joe and Jane which is what I'd like to see happen.
