Title: temperamental dg834g
Post by: Joel on Oct 20, 2010, 19:51:21
My netgear 834g has been playing up, disconnecting me for no apparent reason. After a quick reboot, still doesn't work... But, if I do a 5 minute reboot, it works fine!? Nothing special happens when it cuts off, just cuts off, and then its a 10 minute reboot to fix. Very odd. I can still log into the router fine, the network is fine, but internet is not good. Connection status reads "LCP Down"..............?

Have had it a good 3/4 years, maybe it's just getting old? Only started happening last weekend when I got a loss of service.

very strange, any ideas?  :dunno:

Router or it's PSU failing?

Think I solved my own problem, didn't think it may be so simple?

How did you go with the firmware update?

Did it help?

I wouldn't recommend NetGear's latest firmware for the DG834, 1.02.15.

I've had nothing but problems with the WiFi dropping randomly and not working until the Router is cold-booted. It seems that offering 4 profiles for WiFi is causing it to get confused and to stop broadcasting!

Reverting back to 1.02.08 and everything works sweet.

Have you considered using custom firmware? I have a DG834GT and I use custom firmware from here (http://dgteam.ilbello.com/) and it's a 100% improvement on the "Official" firmware. No dropouts whatsoever since flashing my router. There are also tons more features.
