Title: iPhone 4 facing fresh design-flaw allegations
Post by: Simon on Oct 11, 2010, 21:42:31
Apple could be facing another PR battle over its iPhone 4, with a new design problem gathering momentum among forum posters and critics.

The issue stems from a report on gadget site GDGT that said Apple had withdrawn slide-on iPhone cases from its stores following concerns that grit could become wedged behind the phone and scratch and weaken the glass casing.

The report cited unnamed sources and said Apple was working to resolve the issue, which applies particularly to slide-on cases given Apple's "Made for iPhone" endorsement.

Hardly a flaw with the phone is it! Maybe a flaw with the case though.

Cases for any Apple device tend to fit quite tightly so not surprised something like this has come to light.

I don't use a case on mine, sits in my pocket and its fine, I did have a bumper but it got in the way of docking.

I've never needed, nor will I ever use, any kind of case for any of my Apple products. Half of the product that you pay for is the design and, with a bit of common sense, you can manage to not drop them! That said, I have dropped my iPhone quite a few times yet there are no signs of damage! In fact, I've also dropped my MacBook onto the pavement once.. that was a worrying moment! No problems though luckily!!

I think the case on the iPhone 4 was more to do with the perceived reception problem, wasn't it?  In contrast, I once dropped a BlackBerry Storm, and killed it.  Well, I say dropped, it was more thrown, in frustration, but it didn't stand up to the cardboard box it collided with very well, so I had to get the newer model.  ;D
