Hi
I am new hear and am considering joining IDNet. I am currently with Newnet who I have no problems with but am hoping getting the phone and BB together will show a small saving and get me away from BT who locking me into another 12 month phone contract without my knowledge.
I am on the Midhurst exchange and a long line and am currently suffering dropouts and falling speeds. There is also noise on the line but have copped out of committing to a BT visit. In the dry weather a week or so ago the BT speedtest rated the speed profile as 1500, now today that has dropped to 1000. I am almost sure that it is the pole outside the garden that is causing the problem. When I spoke to BT they said they would probably come along and spray some dryer (or whatever) to cure the problem. I am just waiting for the next lot of rain (due tomorrow) to see if the line noise increases. I think I ought to get this sorted before changing ISP.
I have done the radio test and it is very noisy under my desk where the ADSL box is. It may help to move the transformers etc away a bit. What frequency should the radio be set to. I saw the someone mentioned 600 on the medium wave. It is certainly not as bad as on another part of the scale (think it was lower)
Hi and welcome to the forum.

If there is noise on the line, report it as a voice fault and don't mention the broadband. I assume you've done the quiet line test?

Fortunately I've never needed to do the test myself, but I think it just needs to be untuned. When there is a change to the white noise that indicates the problem. Ultimately, if you have tried the obvious such as connecting to the test socket, swapping out filters and the router then you should be safe to call out BT (assuming its not fixed when reported as a voice fault).

Welcome.
I've never found such a helpful bunch as this lot when it comes to an ISP!

Thanks for the welcomes and reply.
Forgot to mention that I did report it as a voice fault.
When I had ADSL installed I managed to persuade the engineer to fit an ADSL socket in exchange for a cup of tea :), so no filters used here.
I am using a Netgear DG834 v2 which I have upgraded with the DGTeam firmware. I think it is performing better than before.
