Title: Network plan
Post by: psp83 on Sep 24, 2010, 16:10:14
Hey.

Over the coming months I'm planning on upgrading my home network to be a gigabit network.

It means buying all new network cards for pc's and buying new wireless dongles/cards for wireless N for the laptops & putting in cat6 cable around the house (inside the walls)

Here's my plan :

What do you think ? Can you see anything that will cause a slow down in speed or an increase in ping?

Also what do you think will be the best switches to use for this ?

Would you not be better off having a comms cabinet with a central switch, then cabling the house from there?

Just updated the pic as I got the label wrong..

The router and switch will be in the hall where the phone line comes in, This area is being boxed in to hide everything.

Then cables will be ran from there to each room.

Couldn't you just move into Idnet offices, they would give you a camp bed. ;D
