Title: New Google search as you type?
Post by: Technical Ben on Sep 08, 2010, 18:14:14
I don't see the problem with it, but I also don't like it. I hate "automatic" things that computers do. This especially. Why? Well, I have only half typed the word. So how do you even know what I want? Now if it jumped to the search once I pressed space, or stopped typing, it would be great.
Currently though, I don't want "Carphone Warehouse" or "Carbon Trust" I want "carbonate" (just an example of it getting it wrong).

But it brings up some funny suggestions though!

You can turn it off if you don't like it.

Wiki has been doing the same for ages... for short search terms (when it's usually wrong) I just ignore it, but it can be useful if you're searching for something fairly long.

I've been searching for that since I was 16, Bill.

The comment that came to mind would get me banned :P

Seems you only get the new version if you're logged in... I never log in to Google!

Oh, but Google (or goolge ;) ) now updates the whole page in real time as well. What is amazing is how quick it loads. It must be loading in the background as you type, but displaying in one go. Unlike most pages that load up as each bit gets there, and you get a kind of delay.
