Nokia will introduce new smartphone models next week, as it looks to step back into the race with Apple and RIM.
Nokia, whose profits and share price have slid in the last few years, is now betting on the renewal of its line of smartphones, which could save the career of embattled CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo.
The mobile phone maker will unveil its new flagship model E7, which comes with a large touchscreen and full keyboard, at the show in London on 14 September, two sources with direct knowledge of Nokia's plans told Reuters.

Trouble is the N8 is obsolete as they are not using simbian in the rest of the N series so not many apps will be made for it, basically simbian will be used in lower class handsets, so you buy a brand new N8 and its not really up to date at all or even a top line N series. Nokia still have not put a qwerty keypad in it for email, its still has the old keypad based typing system with T9, not great even though the phone looks good.
Yeah, if anything, I'm more drawn to the E7, but will probably wait for the next HTC offering, although, I already don't like the look of WinMo7. Not easy to please, are we? ;D

No we are not, its a shame as the N8 looks lovely ;D I quite miss a Nokia as well.

Nokia is not worth touching till they launch their new OS and ditch Symbian on high end handsets next year/ late this year/ whenever.
I'd still like a look at the new ones, though. It is an updated version of Symbian, so it will probably be less buggy than a brand new OS.

But its being dropped as the flagship OS which makes it out of date straight away as symbian will only be used on cheaper handsets thus not having many apps or new features created for them, the N8 does not even have a qwerty keypad for email or text entry. Nokia really need to pull it together to stay relevant. I think next year with the new OS will be make or break for them as a smartphone leader.
Good point about the keyboard on the N8. That's a deal breaker for a start...

Its a shame because I loved my Nokia handsets, and kinda miss them, but I cant go back to email by T9 :shake:
Nokia I think have suffered from their success in the past, they have become complacent and produce too many models, my wife's basic Nokia is excellent but it took some finding mainly due to their myriad of designs
I'm with you there, Steve, way too many models with only subtle differences between them.

I have to agree, the N series had all small variations but lacked things like decent ram, so it was all promise and looks and no substance, with Android and iPhone new GUI's and good OS's were produced, Blackberry already had a great market and Nokia tried to be all of these things instead of carving out there own brand and OS. Less is more sometimes. The fact you could not upgrade your OS on Nokia phones killed them, when Blackberry etc enabled you to do that without a new phone every time. Even now there is a clutch of new Nokia s using symbian that are so alike its ridiculous and to bring out the N8 as a top range smartphone with an OS that will be relegated to Nokia's base line of smart phones when the next N series is released is not inspiring people to buy the product, even when it does get released.
It could be a proble for HTC soon, too. They are releasing new models every month it seems.

I think thats a mistake the Desire was a good phone, but with the change to super LCD due to demand, and now the new models it will get to confusing, and you end up with loads of phones that put together would make one great one, I think a few handsets and better features across the small range is the way to go.
Yes, the new Desires don't really interest me, as they are too much like the old one, except with a unified inbox, which they could have done with a software upgrade.

Apple did and also did the folders for apps with software, but I think HTC needed a new range but its 8MP camera on the top range one now isnt it, not sure what else is new but it seems mostly the same to me, I agree they could have done that with software, but where's the money in that?
Exactly. The 5mp camera on my HD2 is superb, so if the 8mp one is better, it may well be the best camera you can get on a phone.
You could glue a DSLR to one. :whistle:

unless the 12mp Nokia N8 one is btter :evil: saying that my 5mp on my iPhone is fine, the Amazon app has a take a pic and Amazon will try and match it feature, if they can that is so you buy it there and then which is fun, but I do wonder what pics people have sent in :whistle:
Phone cameras are just that though at the end of the day. Even the HDR feature on the iPhone is a bit wasted really.
