Title: How to open a .wdp file?
Post by: dudwell on Sep 03, 2010, 19:24:17
I've received an email attachment, apparently a photo, as a .wdp file. My Windows XP laptop doesn't know how to open it. Googling leads me to unfamiliar websites, most of them want to check the registry for errors but I'm nervous of falling for some sort of malware.

Any suggestions? Free because it's only one file and simple because it has to be if I'm to make it work!

Thanks Steve. That's one of the websites I meant. I don't have any of the programs it suggests for opening the file but it leads me into Uniblue Registry Booster which claims to find a total of 1257 registry errors :eek4: . Uniblue Registry Booster appears to get reasonable reviews so I take it that it isn't scareware and it's OK to continue?

Ha! Just read a bit further and it seems Uniblue Registry Booster IS scareware. Don't think I'll pursue this further just for one measly photo unless someone has a better idea....

If it is a windows Media Photo, you may need the likes of photoshop or gimp to open it. Do you get an error? What is it's source (is it a picture someone sent you? I only ask as it could be broken or the wrong format)?

Solved it! I'd stupidly overlooked my recently-acquired netbook which is Windows 7. Transferred file to that and it opened right away. Now I just have to get rid of that Uniblue thing.

Thanks Steve and Technical Ben.
