Title: Speed / Profile Drop
Post by: ReDGryphoN on Aug 31, 2010, 13:50:48
Hi all,

Not a regular poster here as I have had so few issues  :)

However last Thursday had noticed web pages taking longer to load than normal and then looked at my router main stats only to find that my normal 2Meg ( I live in nowheresville) had dropped to 0.5-0.75 inc a profile drop.

I contacted IDNET and they asked me to connect the router to the master socket (which I did and have had it there ever since) so they could test it.

After a few emails to them asking how is it going inc another this morning. No updates recevied at all.

Situation with the speed/profile is the same

Is there anything else I can do to find out what is going on ?

Regards

Your line sounds about as long as mine (I normally get 2 to 3 meg throughput).  You should check your router stats, specifically the SNR or Noise Margin.  If it's at 15db it would explain the loss in speed.  Mine rose to 15db a few months back and I was left with 0.5mb downstream.  Turns out my router was dying and causing BT to think my line was unstable so my SNR was auto-punished.  A new router and about a week of patience, everything went back to normal.

Thanks Rik,

They have, they instructed BT to make changes to my profile and I can connect back again from the filtered faceplate. Need to see what happens then over the next 24 hours!

I have a sinking feeling............. :(

I now appear to not be on ADSL2 anymore but on normal and have been put on fast path not interleaved but the profile and rate is still the same.

I have forwarded the screenshots from the router to support to ask what is going on........

For some people, ADSL2+ isn't viable and results are better on ADSLMax.
