Title: Fibre query
Post by: woooshuk on Aug 29, 2010, 22:53:14
My exchange does not appear on any list to be activated for fibre.  I live in a small village with about 1000 lines connected to the BT exchange.
BT is the sole supplier of any internet product at that exchange.

However, when I enter my number in the IDNET checker I get the following.....

Your exchange is not yet ADSL2+ enabled and we don't have any information as to when it will be enabled.
Your exchange is due to be upgraded to Fibre Broadband on 30-09-2010
For details of future exchanges please see 40Mbps Fibre Broadband Indicative Availability Dates

As said at the top, my exchange is not on the lists for upgrade.

Any ideas?

I think the answer might be there are lots of lists with conflicting and probably outdated information in the system. Perhaps this is due to the roll-out which seems to be ahead of schedule.

My local exchange is listed as being activated at the end of next month which IDNet support have verified. However I already have an order placed (via IDNet online) and an engineer is due to connect me up to FTTC next Thursday. The checker provided me with accurate information so perhaps it's done the same for you.

It would be excellent if it was!  I am 200m away from the exchange and about 50m from the street cabinet.

Fingers crossed.

If that's correct then chances are FTTC wouldn't be available to you as at that length most lines go direct into the exchange.

Query solved.  The FTTC kit is being installed in various locations in my village today and the BT checker confirms my number will be connected to one of these! (available from 30-09-10) ;D

Still slightly surprised. The only thing usually at the end of my road is the odd tumbleweed.

Perhaps they're saving on the cost of fibre? ;D
