Title: Speed Tests
Post by: captainpud on Aug 25, 2010, 21:48:53
Can someone explain why speedtest.net and the Thinkbroadband speetest always give me completely different results and which is the more accurate?

Thanks

Paul

The tbb speedtester simply transfers a known number of bytes and measures how long it takes. Speedtest.net does some processing before it gives the result (see here (http://wiki.ookla.com/test_flow) for details).

Which is more accurate? Depends... I think the speedtest.net will give you a good idea of what your connection is capable of, the tbb one tells you what it's actually doing at the time of the test.

You pays your money and takes your choice...

TBB have revamped their speedtester a bit recently. It's supposed to be cosmetic changes only, but it looks like the odd gremlin may have crept in...

Thank you :) I think that explains it.
