I think it's typical scare mongering,the original idea behind the patent is to increase the security of the device. The other potential use re jailbroken phones is Orwellian in nature and I don't think the user base would tolerate it,it's a step too far.
I've been trying my iPhone again this week, and although I find it good for some things (the browser is nice and quick, and the auto-correction when typing is better than the HTC), my main, and over-riding problem is that alerts for emails, reminders, etc, are simply not loud enough, and this is enough to be a deal breaker for me, as I rely on them so much. If only I could change these, then I may be tempted to keep hold of it, but I think it will soon be going up for sale.
There's an iTunes store app MailTones @£1.99 and I'm pretty sure once jailbroken it's no longer an issue.
My iPhone seems fine so far one week later :fingers:
