Hello fellow IDNetters,
My internet connection just dropped in mid flow. One second I'm trawling YouTube, the next... Nothing!
Happened at approx. 10:20am here in cloudy Somerset.
Router still detects ADSL signal, but no data is transferring.
Has anyone else experienced loss of service or data flow problems today?
Thanks in advance,
Andy
None here. :( Sounds like a PPP issue. Power down the router for 15 minutes then try again. If you're still getting nowhere, give support a ring, BT may be at it again.
Thanks Rik - no joy after a 30 minute power down.
Just talked to support and at least one other person has reported the same symptoms. IDNet have talked to BT who have just picked up the problem on their network and have engineers on the case. Advice is to periodically reboot the router. Connection should be restored later today.
It's up on the status page now. BT seem to have far too many of these incidents for my comfort.
My connection has been down since about 10am this morning :(
I'm unsure if its related to the Slough BRAS issue.

Can't see that on either the lists.
Is your router in sync?
Just completed a 30 min power down. Its in sync but no connection. :eyebrow:
Give support a ring, find out what they are seeing at their end.
Thanks Rik, just did and apparently I'm affected by the Slough BRAS issue aswell.
BT spreads its tentacles wide, and often fails to fully report the exchanges affected. :(
Six redundant words on the end of that one
;D
I was being kind, Bill.
Back to life on the 01823 exchange. Hope other affected folks are starting to come back online.
Thanks for the help and advice :)

Not disposed to be kind to BT at the moment, the new router arrived this morning, BT engineer is booked for next Tuesday to connect me to fibre.
Looks like they can't even count up to 5 days
Gah! Spoke too soon! Connection is intermittent at best :(

You've got to remember they never count 1. ;D
So after 10 hours, I've been granted about 1 hour of connection time... in 2 or 3 minute stints.
I trust BT will be reducing my bill accordingly
You trust BT? There's your first mistake. ;)

I don't know what you're on, but can I have some? ;D
Hooray! 30 minutes of stable connection. It's like Christmas come early - well, a little bit early - I expect to see the first Christmas displays in shops in about 2 weeks time...
But I digress...
Now is it just me, or does there seem to be a distinct lack of love for BT in here? Do I need to ask Rik to organise an IDNetters "Hug a BT engineer day"? ;D
No chance. ;D
BT ...... Engineer ...... Oxymoron (or frequrently plain moron.).
;D
I have a very good one sat next to me, this very moment.

An endangered species Glenn, keep him locked up for next time ;D
BT are moving him to exchange work, next month.
oh the joys just got in from work and now i don't have an internet connection
just what what you need on a friday and support is shut
oh i have a sync but no internet and the 2 wire has a nice red light next to the internet thing
Can you try a spare router, Colin. Failing which, power off the router for 30 minutes in case you've got a stale session, then connect to the test socket when you re-power. If that doesn't work, email or phone support, making it clear you have no connection.
thanks rik now ive just got to come to an arangement with danni to borrow her spare
ohh the joys
It's not a spare! We was using it for wireless and extra ports! :P
woo hooo
i now have an internet connection but to get it i had to manually enter my IP address and DNS server details as my router is refusing along with dannis to pick up the information.
so has anyone got any ideas
Oddly enough, my connection dropped after reading this thread at about 10 tonight. It came back within a minute, with no obvious problems and all still seems well.
I really am starting to think BT get drunk at the weekends and randomly flick switches. When I last had problems it was them drinking I tell ya! ;D
Is this on Danni's router?
now its really is good times finnaly got internet working again. and gotta say a big thanks to the phone call from Idnet at about 10pm to tell me that it was evil BT that was having problems
:thumb:
Does this mean I can have my router back? I need it to connect our IRC bouncer back up, and I want my wireless N!
IRC Bouncer?
Do you have a guest list?
;D
Im also having connection problems, router restarts fixing it.
no problems reported:

What do i do ???
Are you dropping sync or losing PPP (remaining in sync but unable to access the web)?
How do i tell the difference?
Also whistle 1 computer would drop, the others stay on.
If only one machine is dropping, it's a problem between that machine and the router. Are you connected via cable or wireless, what OS, what are the other OS and connection types.
2 wired W7 machines, 1 wireless Vista laptop. Had this set up for months, no problems. (expect i had to set them all static IPs to stop em from stealing IPs from each other)
Which one's not working?
Laptop and one of the w7 machines.
So, one is working, two are not? It's not wireless as both types of connection are affected. What's the router?
DG834GT
OK. Try doing a factory reset (paperclip in the back) and then set it up again. Check for a later firmware. If neither of those work, can you borrow an alternative router? This is definitely not an IDNet issue as you would lose all connections at once.
It currently seems ok, and i was drunk last night when it happened. Im going to give it some time and have a look at it when im sober. Thanks for the help, ill no doubt be posting back here later
We'll be here.
The DHCP server can be a bit flaky on some of the GT firmwares
hmmm and just seen the service outage about my exchange and noticed there was one on 19th but it was fixed by the time i got in from work
