Whats the best way to find out your motherboard make/model and how much memory it can take?
The Crucial.com website Memory adviser tool here (http://www.crucial.com/uk/) Paul.
Something like Sys Info for Windows?
http://www.gtopala.com/
Belarc adviser does the lot including all your progs/updates etc and advises if anything is up the shoot, HD status and also advises on missing win updates.

It says my mobo max memory is 4gb (i have that installed) so I guess that I will need a new motherboard to increase the memory :(
Sounds a bit that way. :(

You have to be running a 64bit version of either Windows XP/Vista/7 to fully support 4Gb and above.
Colin
I run win 7 64bit already
I have an aBit KN9 Ultra for sale, paired with an Athlon 64 X2 6400 and Ivo120 HS/Fan - supports 8Gig of DDR2 PC6400 (damn - there's a lot of 64s in that)
