Title: Line stability and someone else's wiring
Post by: Rik on Apr 04, 2007, 18:18:01
My line has been much less stable than usual for the past fortnight. A neighbour has just joined Tiscali (he did ask, he didn't listen!), and was having problems getting sync (1Mbps fixed-rate).

A non-BT engineer has been out today to re-wire his house (8 extensions, old style master). He's now down to two extensions and has sync. At the same time, my signal has suddenly become much more stable.

I'm just curious, is this just a happy coincidence, or could his wiring have been creating so much noise once the ADSL signal went live that it was kicking my noise margin?

I wonder if it was creating the noise and carrying this down the lines which could be how it was affecting yours.

Maybe :)

That was about what I was wondering, Lance. All lines in the Close are distributed from a cupboard built into this house, as is the cable TV. Wayleaves galore! :)
