Title: Sync' Margin
Post by: Polchraine on Aug 06, 2010, 14:42:39

Since installation my 2700HGV has always sync'ed with a 3.0 margin - which as the day went on would increase slightly and then drop towards 0 overnight and it would hold the connection even when the margin went slightly negative.   I would always try to get sync around 6400.

Then a few days back there was a resync' as my IP had timed out (my ISP, BT seems to do an IP refresh at around 2 weeks or so my history shows) and it resync'ed at 7337.   36 hours later during the night the margin dropped to -0.4 dB  which caused a loss of sync and then connection re-established itself at 6290 with a 3.0 dB margin - just as I would expect.

A few days later, for reasons unknown, there was another resync' at 6491 but with a 6.0 dB margin.        Any idea why the target margin at sync' has gone from 3.0 dB to 6.0 dB ?           Line is stable, router and ancillaries are away from electrical noise,  filtering is fine, phone lines are away from and power cables, power is stable ...

I left it for a day, not wanting to give the exchange the impression there was a fault  and did a connection reset ... still 6.0 dB.

What I do not want is the sync speed dropping to 6240 or below as that will drop my throughput by 500k

So, any suggestions as to why?  and anything I can do to shift it back?    Is it the router or exchange that has made the decision?

I have not seen anyone else get a regular 3dB sync using the 2700HGV, the Singtel firmware syncs at 8dB and the other firmwares at 6dB, which firmware do you have ?

There is a 3db margin if you're on ADSL2+ but it's not the norm. If you had it, I'd say the error count on your line has forced you back to the more normal 6db, which costs you around 500k in speed
