If your Desire is not locked to a network, then Froyo is now being deployed over the air.
That's Android 2.2 to those who, like me, didn't have a clue what Froyo was!!! ;D
Gingerbread, is the next one. ;D
I nearly bought one today, but I was slightly concerned about several posts in the HTC forums, complaining of poor / overly quiet sound quality from the phone's speaker. Anyone else found this? Have to say, the sound quality isn't great from the HD2, and I certainly wouldn't want any worse.
It isn't the best speaker, it sounds tinny, but as I don't use it, it's not a problem for me. The Froyo update, may contain a software upgrade for it, but I haven't seen anyone saying it has.
I find the sound quality from the speaker to be fine (ie when holding the phone to your ear during a call). The speaker for the ringer/handsfree is a bit tinny but most phones suffer from this.
Thanks, Glenn.
I was talking about the external speaker too, Fox.
Fox, yes, I'm talking about the ringer speaker. I've not heard any complaints about call voice quality.
I cant say I find it any worse than any other phone I have had and seems to be as loud as my Samsung Galaxy.
For those who aren't aware the 2.2 update adds a JIT Java compiler which boosts the speed of some apps by up to 4 times and boosts the overall performance of the phone dramatically (from about 525 to 1369 according to benchmarking software) and its not like the phone is slow on 2.2.

Also you get 720p HD video recording/playback and the ability to save/run apps from the phones SD card and full support for flash 10.1 so you can watch BBC iPlayer.
Gingerbread (android 3.0) will bring the abilty to update selective parts of the ROM so you will be able to update just the radio or camera for example and not have to flash the full ROM as you need to now
This is good news for Desire users. Hopefully it will be available for the little Wildfire soon.
Must admit, the OTA upgrade is attractive.
Super benchmark there Fox. By any chance is that overclocked! :o

Nope it isn't overclocked. Its just 2.2 runs a LOT faster than 2.1 did.
As long as it's not like NVidia and their "we will just add some zeros to the benchmark results by hand". ;)
Soon our phones will be more powerful than our first... oh wait, been there already. :(
We even got back to slide rules. ;)
They were too powerful, try stones or the abacus.
Cojones?
