Hi there,
My boyfriend has tried to upgrade the firmware in his DG834 v4 router with the latest version from Netgear. Unfortunately after going into Router upgrade and doing the upgrade the power light is flashing red and green. He can't get a connection and nor can he get into the router via 192.168.0.1.
Any ideas would be gratefully received! :)
Have you tried a reset with a paperclip
He will give it a go! Thanks!
I will let you know whether it works.
You need to hold it in for about 5secs until the lights start flashing
No. Apparently it hasn't worked. :(
Follow the complex reset procedure here http://www.vpncasestudy.com/reset.html
if this fails it's probably a brick however the recover utility may work??..
Which browser did he use was it FireFox I ask because its difficult to tell when the firmware upgrade has finished unless you use IE and sometimes the update is interrupted because FF say it's finished.
Thanks for this Steve, he's going to give this a try now. Fingers crossed everyone! :fingers:
We tried the hard reset which didn't work.
Now we are doing the router recovery which was on the web page for in case the hard reset didn't work.
Does anyone know how long this process takes? Apparently it looks like its stalled. We are hoping its just thinking about it!
The other thing is TFTP no experience myself what so ever , it says load the initial firmware not the latest.
More here the router's different but the method is the same plus there is another hardware reset described.

Thanks for this Steve,
Unfortunately its not working still but he's not tried the TFTP. He says he's not sure he can do that.
At present he's reinstalling windows (he thinks there is something wrong with this that might have caused the error to happen)
You can imagine how chuffed at this he is! :argh:
Thanks again for your help. :)
I think the TFTP is probably no more difficult than using the recovery utility, the failure of the router could be a corrupted update of the firmware or it's suffered a hardware failure. I find it's best to do something else like walk the dog once a browser says it finished updating router firmware. Updating router firmware is about the only use I am aware of for Internet Explorer >:D
I'll second that.
And for flash heavy sites.
Thanks for the advice guys. Unfortunately, to use a technical term it is "knackered"!
He phoned IDNet yesterday and ordered a new router.
Thanks again.
Helen.
Hit a brick wall with that one, never mind >:D
