Title: Vodafone reveals iPhone 4 pricing
Post by: Simon on Jun 14, 2010, 22:43:09
Vodafone unveiled pricing for the Apple iPhone 4, starting at £189 for the 16GB version and £280 for the 32GB version - although it appears the tariffs may have been released earlier than intended.

A page on the Vodafone website listed the prices earlier today, but the page has now been taken down. A Vodafone spokesman told PC Pro: "It was a test page. We've taken it down now. As soon as we're ready to share pricing we will."

Not the first time, either.  Remember the data charges "leak"?

I am ordering ording a sim free iPhone 4, tbh I do not want to be stuck in another 18mth contract, I can go to a simplicity tariff save about £180 over the year, with upgrade fee and price of phone it works out the same as buying a sim free handset anyway, I then sell my 3GS and happy days. Also I can take it to any network as needed.

I hate to think of the price of the sim free ones, but it's only money.   ;)

£599 but over the year I save £180 changing tariffs my upgrade fee is £144 the phone is £280 ish and I sell the 32gb 3GS for a good price still, it works out fine and means I can use it with Vodafone when my contract ends and take my number with me, that way ill actually get 3G coverage.

That's cheaper than I expected, Gary, given the 3GS was about £800, if I'm not mistaken.

It was expensive, Mazuma will give me £247 for my old one so that takes it to £352 which is fine and means im not in contract for another 18 months and can use the phone on any network. The order is placed and will arrive on the 24th :) :thumb:

I've reserved a iPhone 4 for collection from store on 24th. Not sure to go through with in yet, my 3GS on O2 still has 12 months of its contract to run so I could continue with this contract with the new phone by changing to a micro SIM, this would cost me £499 the price of the new phone.

I would sell my 3GS to offset the cost but I know I won't be allowed to do this, my daughter has already 'bagsed" it  ::)

Guess I've got until 23rd to decide.

I think I'll wait until December when I'm out of contract and then replace with another 18 month contract, I'll then be on time for the new update in two years hence.

Could hardly believe Apple were charging 600 quid for a SIM free iPhone.

I really think they are taking their customers for a ride.

I know mobile hardware is expensive but I think 350 quid is enough for a locked down platform.

Even then, I suspect it doesn't begin to represent the manufacturing cost.

I think they use the cheapest manufacturers and a make a killing on each unit

Quite literally, given the suicide rate at Foxconn. :(

I'm tempted to do that as mine ends in December as well, but I plan to drop to a simplicity monthly contract for 6 months and get next June's release. Knowing me, though, I'll be too tempted and get the new iphone in December :)

Same with all modern electronics, thats how you make money, its not just Apple gear made there, and sadly I'm sure its not the only place like it.
