Just hit upon a problem with IDNet E.Mail address.
Attempted to register at Digital Spy Forum, result rejected because they do not accept anonymous e mail addresses.
Because the IDNet e mail address is " freemail " within it's content, their system reject it automatically.
Still in correspondence with them, but something I havn't encountered before, nor even thought about to be honest.
I must admit I've never liked the freemail bit of the domain name, but as I use it as a spare account it's never caused me any problems. OTOH, I couldn't register to comment on Simon's blog with my own domain, but it was happy to accept the idnetfeemail one.
Computers are funny things! :(
PS - See you over on 'Spy...
I also only use it as a spare as well Rik, however, as Digital Spy only accept legitimate ISP provided addresses, and their system looks on the IDNet one as a " freebie " it seems that I am stuffed, I obviously don't have another ISP one.
Will have to wait and see what DS come up with, however it isn't looking promising at the moment.
I just tried putting my Gmail address in, they won't accept that either (though other forums do). Seems very uptight of DS. :(
Agreed Rik, no Hotmail, GMail Yahoo etc.
Pathetic really, but there doesn't seem to be any way that I can access the site as a member.
Might just be worth trying www.mail.com, and signing up for an account there. I have one which has been accepted by DS in the past. It's a webmail only interface unless you pay, then you can opt for POP3 or forwarding. I used to use it before I registered by own domain, so it just followed me from ISP to ISP.
Thanks Rik, I have signed up with them, will give it a go.
Oh well, no joy with that either, immediately rejected.
:'(
I can't say what I'm thinking, I'd have to ban myself. :)
I do think DS are getting a bit over the top...
Agreed Rik, it is just so frustrating that they will not accept my obviously legitimate ISP address.
Particularly as many people using forums do so with Google, Yahoo etc email for very good reasons. I could give you a box on my domain, but that wouldn't be the best solution I guess. :(
No not ideal, but thanks for the offer anyway.
I will wait and see what DS come up with if anything, then I may contact IDNet if needs be, to see if they can supply another email address in a different format.
The offer stands if you're stuck...
Eureka, sorted at last, it only took 11 emails to DS to sort it, talk about Fort Knox.
;D
Amazing. You'd think they were protecting the crown jewels in there. :(
I would have given you a reference! ::)
You'd have probably needed it witnessed by a solicitor, Mo. :( I assume they must have had some problems to be restricting email addresses they way they are - many people use GMail etc for forums.

Agreed Rik, but they have quite stringent moderation in place, it seems members get banned for a few days at a time on a regular basis.
Never had a problem at any other forum, as you say, most accept any old email address.
Anyway, sorted, and thanks for your help.
I know what you mean about their style, Inactive. You don't tend to see mods in the forum, but bans seem to be commonplace. It's certainly not the way I would want to work. :(
Glad it's sorted though. I expect to see you in there knocking Sky with the rest of us. :)

My first post was doing just that Rik, no surprises there.
Very few people on DS are big Sky fans. It's sad to compare how we feel about IDNet here to how people feel about Sky there - though it does make me appreciate IDNet all the more.
