Title: Bought a 3XS system from Scan?
Post by: pctech on Jun 14, 2010, 15:26:06
Just pricing up a new system and Scan have quite a good rep it seems but was just wondering if anyone on here has bought a system from them.

What was the service like and did you get exactly what you ordered?

I've got one, Mitch. I found they gave good advice during purchase and great after sales service.

The other company are based in Holmfirth, Yorkshire which is not from where I spent quite a bit of my early years in Batley.

If you want a southern based company, Novatech are good. http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/pc/

I shall probably go with Scan as one of the options is green case lighting.

Cheers Glen

Geographic location isn't important provided they don't manufacture in Ireland (had lots of fun with Dell but thats another story)

I'll second that, Glenn, my current main machine is based on one of their 'barebones' systems, I've been very pleased with it.

Scan are good, no personal experience (I tend to build my own) but one of my brothers-in-law bought a complete system from them and was very happy with it.

I've bought a fair few components over the years (Although never a complete system) from http://www.overclockers.co.uk, never had a problem - always delivered on time and they have good forums as well if you want advice.

I buy (many) systems in bits from them, often in large quantities; dual socket boards with boxes of hard drives and their delivery is very fast. They are responsive in RMA and queries, and have a good stock. They don't lie about what they have in stock either, whereas I have had issues with overclockers before where they have messed things up.

Me too. I've used Scan a bit without issues, though I've never had to send anything back, and also eBuyer, who despite their patchy reputation couldn't have been more helpful when I had to return a £300 item earlier this year. :thumb:

I've used these guys before (but not for a couple of years), and found them very good:

We normally use www.aria.co.uk for all of our stuff, but then again they're only just down the road so we can collect. :)

Scan are very good for components, I've no idea about pre built systems, although their hideously expensive top end one wins awards.

Look at the system, see how much it would cost to build yourself (you'll probably find everything on their own site is about as cheap as the components get, anywhere) then if it's cheaper have a look at what support they offer with the system.

Personally I like to build my own (well, like is pretty far off the mark as I always expect a dead motherboard or something, but it never happens :D) but if not, I'd be surprised if anyone does a better job than them.

System I priced up is about £1300 which I'd expect for the components I want.

Only company I've not looked at yet is the company that built my current system, Mesh (http://www.meshcomputers.com) I'm a little reluctant to go with them as when I had a motherboard issue my call seemed to be answered by an overseas call centre.

I ended up getting the repair organised via their very helpful forum mod to whom I laid out exactly what I had tested and he replied that the tests I had done would have been the ones they recommended so he went ahead and organised a motherboard swap.

I've heard good things about these people http://www.powerc.com/uk/ps/Intel%20Base%20Unit%20Gaming/1/code/cs-i7-exi/act/gpage , not used them myself though.

I looked at a scan system recently as far as I could see they are solid with good phone support and the photos of the builds are a nice touch, worth the money.
