...asking this question, but;
What is a " child board " listed at Service Announcements ????
In this particular instance, it's a board where announcements can be discussed because members can't post in the parent board.
However, structurally, it needn't be that way, we could, for example, have a parent board called 'Help' and then two children, 'IDNetters Help' and 'General Computing Help', or a parent 'Chat' with children 'Natter' and 'Rant and Rave' etc.
Clear as mud Rik... ;D, That could have been written by Gordon Brown.. ;D ;D
Now, in simple terms, how does it differ from any other header, if indeed it does?
( I told you that I was going to regret asking ).. :)
OK, put another way, a child board is no different to any other board as far as members are concerned, they just involve an extra step of navigation unless they are 'indexed' on the front page, as the child to Announcements is. The difference is purely a structural one, in board terms, and can be nullified by a direct link, as has been done for our only child board. OTOH, if you go to announcements, you can see the sub-board there, and that would be the normal navigational path for a child. It's a bit like folder structures within Windows.
Have I managed to sound like Tony yet? :)

Yup, load of spin, ;) anyway I am slightly clearer now, it's just that I have never ever come across such a thing on any forum before.
Parental guidance required perhaps.. :angel:
I confess I've never seen one before, Inactive. My guess is that it was set up to allow discussion of announcements because the main/parent board is not 'open to post'.
My head's spinning too... (http://bestsmileys.com/silly/23.gif)
