I'm with Orange and expected to get the (google) maps but they seem to be extra cost? It talks about a montly subscription to access orange maps.
Now my wife got a Hero late last year - i was looking at getting one but really disliked the shape of it so i held off upgrading until now.
She has the Google Maps on her Hero (which i'd read the phone came with in a magazine) and it does not cost her anything ! So i'm a little annoyed atm and am contemplating sending it back within the 7 day return period.
OR can i download the google maps app for free or small One Off cost and then get it in the same way she does ?
Glenn : which provider are you with for your Desire ? And do you have Google maps for free ?
Thanks in advance
Sorry, can't help, although I'm with Orange, I tend to use the phone as just a phone. :(

Orange tend to charge for everything on their phones, I would always prefer a sim free handset anyway, especially over an Orange firmware nightmare. Maybe it can be unbranded giving you google maps for free?

I'm with T-Mobile, there is no charge for Google Maps for my phone, but it will only work as long as you have a phone signal. From what other forums have said, Orange block Google maps to force users to use their own maps.
I believe the data allowance on T-Mobile, 3Gb, is quite a bit more than Orange too.
how can i see if i can access google maps ?
Search for Google Maps in the Marketplace and install it if it is free.
