Not sure this is the best forum to post in but the 1.6 community are very immature so best avoided.
Recently say the past 4/5 days my CS 1.6 occasionaly suffers from massive fps drop then crashes.
Maybe once or twice a night but thats often enough to really pee me off.
Its almost as if another program has started up and is hogging my computer resources. For no reason in game FPS will suddenly start to spike eventually dropping as low as 7fps. It takes an age to even alt-tab out of game and I never get out quick enough to identify a possible task using all my computer resources.
The only programs I have installed in the past few days are.
Nero 7
Perfect Disk 8
WinAVIconverter
Has anyone suffered similar problems with any of those programs and HL based games? Or could it be something else entirely? I don't really want to uninstall any of those as I use them all quite frequently.
It always seems to happen when I'm on a good kill streak, just to pee me off even more :(
Yeah, having cs 1.6 and css installed, on my old machine this was a big problem as I didnt have resources to spare. The usual culprit was antivirus updating or windows updates. Try playing with auto updates turned off and auto defrag disabled while you play.
The worst thing is it only seems to effect CS what ever it is.
Other games I play are Company of Heroes and that never seems to be effected. My Anti Virus & Defrag are both auto dissabled.
Delete your config?
My computer > C > Program files > Steam > Steam apps > Your name > Counter strike > Delete the config.cfg file
It will auto create one next time you restart the game...Doesnt help?
Delete the game from your "steam list" and delete it the whole counter strike folder and allow steam to redownload it
Found the problem its a conflict with the latest Nvidia drivers.
Two options one is to roll back drivers to 66.70 or something around that OR run hl.exe in a low priority untill Valve release the new update.
