Title: Does anyone know if this is available anywhere
Post by: D-Dan on Mar 11, 2010, 23:38:07
TRSI's classic Amiga Demo - Rise - IMO still a beautiful example of what the demo artists managed to squeeze out of the old generation personal computers (and one of my all time favourite demos).

This would run on a standard A1200, with a 14 Mhz processor and the built in graphics chipset. I'd love to see it in it's almost native form on AmigaForever, but I can't find it for download anywhere.

Anyone?

Thank you - I forgot all about Aminet (may go and see if my stuff is still on there - though I lost the sources a long long time ago, I may still be able to get the utilities in a working form).

I believe that one of mine (GhelpDeluxeMUI) was certified for use with Amiga OS4 :) Not bad considering I started writing it on a Workbench 2.1 machine (and evolved it on WB3.1)

As for Rise - looks so much better in all it's pixelated glory than it does on the YT video. It still amazes me that they managed real time 3D scenes on a very limited processor and less than 2MB Chip mem. It really is a testament to programmers in years gone by. Modern programmers are spoilt with the high system specs people have these days. Innovation is no longer a requirement, sadly.

Those working on the Crygen 3 engine are not spoilt! They are programming a beautiful render engine from the ground up. Getting it to work on the PS3 as well, all with real time lighting.
Pity it's used for a violent game, and not something more artistic or open to the masses.

Sex and violence sells, then they sell the engine!

But what could they render in 96k of memory (http://www.idnetters.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=8415.msg186739#msg186739) ?
