Title: Speed Tester
Post by: drummer on Mar 10, 2010, 23:50:17
Just another addition to the list, although this one has a bit of a twist as it compares your connection with other ISPs in the neighbourhood.

Doesn't contradict other speedtesters I used before and after this test, but it does give me bragging rights.

A very interesting variation on a theme that one  :thumb:

I'm towards the bottom end of the pile but some ISP results are claiming 36MB+ which I'd guess is down to my exchange being FTTC enabled. Why on earth they can get it but I apparently can't still remains a mystery  :dunno:

And the mystery is called BT...  :shake:

You've got it, Zap. You neither?

I'm a chronic insomniac, I'm always around at this time and usually until the early hours. Sometimes I just doze on the sofa for a couple of hours and I think this is going to be one of those night  :)

 :(

Been there, but I'm better these days. Plays havoc with the bags under your eyes though, doesn't it.

What is this "sleep" of which you speak?    :dunno:

Forgot to add that if you use Firefox with AdBlock Plus, you'll need to disable ABP to get this to work.

Some people do it, Drummer, others of us don't need to. ;)

So you sparkle in sunlight as well Rik? Remain the same age forever? Able to move with incredible speed? If so, you may be a vampire. Just thought you should know :)

(As well as needing sleep I'm out on all 3 of the others too so I'm definately not a vampire!)

Well, I'm still 22, can move inches in seconds and come from a family of cannibals. What do you reckon? ;D

Interesting tester with some VERY odd results in my area. People much closer to the exchange and on the same line run as us have lower speeds, others way out have very high speeds for cable run.

The really odd thing is their list of products available which is totally wrong. We have no high speed LLU or cable service, they quote products on ADSL2 and Virgin @24 meg, they are NOT available here.

Same here, Dorset, my exchange is BT only, up to 8Mb.

Well I am the fastest around my area (6.8Mb) however TalkTalk is averaging 5.5Mb which is not bad, 2 premises with TalkTalk are testing at 11 and 13Mb

I'm the fastest in my area, 6.8 with TalkTalk coming in an appalling 3.5mb and BT 2.5

My 2.6Mb/0.7Mb results are the fastest BT based products in my postcode area, by around 1Mb

I'm tops, until someone about half a mile away got 21Mb.  :'(

That's why I put BT based, the fastest nearby is 13mb with Virgin, then TT with around 4.4mb

We have no Adsl2+ in the village so speeds were quite surprising

Nope nobody has :eyebrow:
Strange thing tho, the max that our exchange can cope with is 2000 acording to BT,  and the best performer Orange(spit, spit) is the one I dumped because it was never there in the evenings. :shake:

Thats really odd, I was with Orange before I left for O2 LLU then when I moved I came back to IDnet, and they were awful, my tests are only Adsl we are a market 1 exchange, BT product only, and sadly only ADSL MAX with no sign of a WBC date. I cant see how IDnet score are low, here they they score really highly, beating the competition my 3mb

I could well have got this totally wrong  But looking at the screenshot above from Gary the 'average' for 'you' is not shown, simply the one off reading. One would think that to have a true comparison the average of 'you' should be portrayed in the graph. Am I wrong? :dunno:

Its the average speed of several users of a particular ISP in your area against your own result.Usually with IDNet your average speed is the same no matter what time of day.
