Title: Email problems - User Unknown
Post by: Andrew_Wardle on Mar 13, 2007, 10:30:01
Hello,

Yesterday I tried to set up an address with IDNet freemail to use with Mozilla Thunderbird.

I set the address up in my Customer Account area, and the status changed to 'ready'. It is still showing 'ready' now.

I received a welcome email from IDNet, which I was able to open without any problem.

Now every time I open Thunderbird I get an error message "Sending of password did not succeed. Mail server pop3.idnet.net responded : User unknown."

How on earth can the user be unknown when the server has just sent me an autiomated 'welcome email'?

I have emailed support but got no reply. Any ideas what might be wrong?

Andrew

It might be better to phone CS, so that they can run through your settings with you. The most obvious thought would be that you've mis-typed the account name in TBird, but I assume you've checked that? Have you tried using the webmail interface, can you get in there? It's here (http://www.webmail.idnet.net/index.mml?SignonProduct=GMS%20WebMail&language=) if you haven't spotted it.

One other thought, your login is not the same as your email address, if the email address is a.person@idnetfreemail.co.uk, your login would be a.person.idnetfreemail.
