Title: Hello idnetters
Post by: ShirkerBee on Mar 08, 2010, 12:38:50
I am in the progress of migrating from o2 (very limited) access to idnet and hopefully will be switched sometime this week. So thought I would say a hello to you all.  :thumb:

Hi and welcome to the forum. :welc: :karma: I take it you haven't had the confirmation email fron IDNet yet? That will give you the date and your login details. Once you have these, you can set up any email addresses you want, and also your webspace - blog, photo or general purpose.

You lot make me sick !!!!!!!!
Following tum probs for quite a time I've just had a tube rammed down my throat (2nd time) and the following diagnosis has been revealed.
1. hiatal hernia
2. Stomach ulcer
3. oesophagal spasm (severe)
4. Inflamed tum and oesophagus.
This means no consumption of any food that I like but I may partake of as many rice puddings and milk dishes as I wish.
Anyway, I now hate steak and chips on principle!!!!

Rick, I have a work colleague with the same problem, he is due to have a probe fitted, to monitor his swallow, it needs to be in place for at least 24hrs. Then they will operate on the condition he has had since birth, he is now 46.

Thanks all for your thoughts.
I've spent the last 2 months sitting up at night. Tried everything (including raising the bed end) to no avail. I'm normally not one to moan but (a) I'd love a good nights sleep and (b) I could tear the heart out of anyone that annoys/disagrees with me.
The big plus is that I now know what the prob(s) are and will plague my local GP to sort things out.
I also know which IDNetters can't sleep at night too!!! ;D ;D

I've also done the sit up, Rick. The only suggestion I can make is invest in a comfortable recliner, for me - albeit for different symptoms, it worked a treat (and still does).

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm - Bacon. Sorry - I have no steak in the fridge.

As for diets, I'm under strict orders - cut down on sugar (T1 diabetic), cut down on salt (High BP), Stop smoking (When people stop telling me to), cut out alcohol (as if!).

If I'd listen to the doctors, I could live to be 100 - a long, miserable, boring life!

Or I can enjoy it while I'm here. IMO - a short and happy one is the better option.

Steve

Edit: Let's make "Short" into "Shorter"

That'll be me, I'm usually around most of the night  ;D It's no consolation I know but I can sympathise with stomach problems. I'm about to go under the knife to have my gallbladder removed, it took years to arrive at this point and finally get it diagnosed. I've been on a diet of boiled rice and strangely coloured gravy for longer than I care to remember while watching the rest of the Netters talking about feasts fit for a king  :'(

I have a friend who works for a company that run a number of rest homes, when he started there it depressed him to see that the homes are generally at least 95% female residents and in some cases 100%, then he realised that in many cases they are woken, washed, dressed, put in a chair, taken to a lounge, fed, taken to the toilet, cleaned up, sat in front of the TV and so on. He's now very much a member of the "enjoy life, you might not be here tomorrow" club. As he said to me once "You can take that last 20 years and stuff them where the sun doesn't shine, it's about quality of life, not just length of life"

This topic has went round the houses a bit. From a hello to a steak dinner to live life to the full whilst you can, which i have to say I fully agree with. I am only a youngster at 28 but have seen a lot of family pass away at an early age so I am definately in the do as much as you can when you can and never pass up and opportunity when it arrises.

Just thought I would post an update on my actual connection. Was activated last night currently using an old speedtouch 510 router which I will be swapping out later today currrent stats looking like
(http://www.clanfri.com/routerstats.JPG)
Was hoping for a little bit higher synch rate but least i am getting speeds of around 6-7mb which is very nice. Connection seems stable enough from what i have seen so far a definate improvement on o2 access... altho i could have possibly improved that by using a 2 cans and a bit of string.
Title: Re: Hello idnetters
Post by: Ray on Mar 12, 2010, 13:49:45
You've got interleaving turned on by the looks of those stats.

Quotechannel mode : interleaved
Title: Re: Hello idnetters
Post by: Rik on Mar 12, 2010, 15:30:12
Which means you're going pretty much as fast as you can. Ask support to have the interleaving turned off after the 10 day training period.

So been a 3 weeks connected and have to say really happy with the connection. Getting pretty much 6mb download constantly which is great and not had any problems at all. Just wondering if you guys thought I am getting the max i could possibly get out my line or if there are room for improvment.

You're not going to get any better than that on adslmax. :thumb: Next step is adsl2+ or FTTC/P when it arrives at your local exchange
Title: Re: Hello idnetters
Post by: ShirkerBee on Mar 24, 2010, 23:25:35
ok i have just noticed after looking at my screenshots that the mode is g.dmt which is adslmax right? Well I should be on adsl2+ as I have the home plus package
Title: Re: Hello idnetters
Post by: Rik on Mar 25, 2010, 08:52:59
You are, look at the upstream speed. I think you may have to turn your AV software off during speedtests, your throughput is higher than your profile.
Title: Re: Hello idnetters
Post by: Steve on Mar 25, 2010, 09:00:38
I suppose that now makes sense must look closer next time I saw G.DMT and I always associate it with adsl but with the upstream  and the home plus package it has to be adsl2+
