Last night, late , the phone rang and it was an automated voice reading an sms that one of my friends :thwack: had sent to the landline number instead of my mobile. There was a long message about restricting delivery times or disabling the feature altogether, and a website was mentioned.
Unfortunately, as it was late (did I mention it was late :wall:) I can't remember any of it.
Does anyone know how to get this 'feature' switched off?
Or at least the home phone number of whoever thought it up in the first place
BT text (http://bt.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/bt.cfg/php/enduser/cci/bt_catpage.php?p_sid=&cat_lvl1=345&cat_lvl2=350&cat_lvl3=993&p_cv=3.993&p_cats=345,350,993) One of the options in the list is enable/disable
Hmmm, I'm not with BT - my line's with idnet, why are BT delivering SMS to me?
There's also a note saying you have to send am sms from your landline to enable the service, which I've never done since I don't have an sms capable phone. That's also going to make it difficult to stop the service, which is done, apparently, by sending an sms :wall:
I'm pretty sure that BT wasn't mentioned in the ramblings last night, I'd have remembered if it was - I know who they are.
Drop support an email or give them a ring.
Have you got Call Minder or Answer 1571 services see here (http://bt.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/bt.cfg/php/enduser/cci/bt_adp.php?p_sid=X5UZorVj&cat_lvl1=345&cat_lvl2=350&cat_lvl3=993&p_cv=3.993&p_cats=345,350,993&p_faqid=8511) on the BT site.
Instructions on the same site here (http://bt.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/bt.cfg/php/enduser/cci/bt_adp.php?p_sid=X5UZorVj&cat_lvl1=345&cat_lvl2=350&cat_lvl3=993&p_cv=3.993&p_cats=345,350,993&p_faqid=9050) to enable and disable it.
Like Sp00t, I wonder how you disable the service if your phone isn't SMS capable.
Turn off call minder or 1571 service, buy an SMS enabled phone or tell the person who left the message not to do it again
Or borrow a phone, I suppose.
When you get a landline SMS, I believe it tells you how to disable the service.
Unfortunately, though, that seems to require an SMS capable phone. To send SMS costs 8p, btw.
No, when you receive the message on the landline phone, you then get the option to disable the service.
You mean as voice? I didn't when I tested.
I used to get them, buy disabled them on my line, and that's how I thought I did it, but perhaps there's a special code you have to dial, or something?
There is a code to dial, but you can only do so if you have an SMS enabled phone, which seems crazy.
Does this work? Or does it not if your account is with idnet?
How do I enable/disable the Voice Text feature with BT Text?
If you don't want to receive Voice Texts type *1# and send to 00000. If you want to be able to receive Voice Texts type #1# and send to 00000.

It worked for me.
Or maybe this from a phone that doesn't have a send button...............
"Called 0800 5875252 and got options for standard curfew (11 pm to 8 am), no curfew, watershed 9pm to 8 am, midnt to 6 am, and turn it off completely (press 5)."
That's exceedingly useful, Sparky. :karma: Is your line with BT or IDNet?
Still with BT so I don't know if that also works with idnet.
Just had my intermittent line problems all fixed, so will probably switch to idnet for my voice once the dust settles.
I'll try it from my IDNet line and see what happens...
It works! :thumb:
That must have been what I did, Sparky, and are the options I was refering to. Thanks for confirming my sanity. :)
