Title: BT Speedtest and Windows 7
Post by: dudwell on Feb 20, 2010, 13:41:41
A quick question:-

My daughter (ISP Demon) is failing to get the BT Speedtester to work. She always gets an error message when putting in her phone number. I've told her the test is notoriously troublesome, requiring great persistence, but is it possible that it doesn't like Windows 7? Seems unlikely but ..... :dunno:

Keep trying, unless her exchange has C&W LLU then it won't work.Demon is owned by C&W

I've had no problem running the BT speedtest using Windows 7.

I've seen reports of people experiencing difficulties with the test and Win7, but others are not having problems, so there's no simple yes or no answer as far as I can tell.

www.speedtest.net, using the Maidenhead server, produces figures comparable with the BT tester in my experience, but, of course, you don't get a profile and BT won't accept the results. :(

I've just run one with no problem, though looking at the results I wish I hadn't bothered.  :(

'The system is currently busy. Please try again shortly, however if this problem persists, raise the issue with your service provider'

That is the message I get using either FF or IE with Win 7

Thanks! I'll tell her to keep trying.

www.speedtest.net, using the Maidenhead server produces  results in the 3 to 4 Mb/sec range. Not too good for ADSL2+ I reckon especially as she's within urban Maidenhead.

I've a list of things for her to try!

Maidenhead exchange has C&W LLU so its possible Demon are using this to provide ADSL2+.If this is the case the BT speedtest will not work.

I hadn't appreciated the Demon/C&W connection until now. That seems the likely reason for the test failing. Thanks again everyone for helpful comments.

I get the same problem as your daughter and I'm currently on Vista so whatever the issue is it's not O.S. related.
