Title: External HD

what would you recommend for an external HD enclosure.had an ICY BOX one last year but the power cable died I think, sent it back to amazon got a full refund  :) :), well done Amazon  :thumb: but finding the same ones  hard to come by so wondered if you had any other ideas.

thanks Glenn.sorry though should have explained myself better.its for my daughter who had an external drive about two years ago, think it was a Maxtor/WD  cant remember now but anyway the switch broke so I bought an external enclosure and stuck the HD in there, now it wont turn on and I think its the power cable.its gone back to amazon now.so I have the HD and just need a decent enclosure to stick it in.its an IDE drive if that helps

The price of the portable  2.5in are reasonable at the moment around £50 for 320 Gb plus no additional power supply required

I'v had a mybook external HD for about 7 years no problem.

Also have a cheap Iomega from PC world that is doing great - had that about a year so far.

I don't move my HD's around too much though. If you want to use it like a giant USB memory stick then I would recommend the Western Digital ones as they are very solid as well as nice and compact. Bit pricier though.

I have two WD ones and they have never let me down.  Both are 500gig and I move one of them around a lot as I have a media player connected to my TV.
