Hi all,
I am due to be sent the 2700 soon and i was just wondering whether there are issues with this router when using it with xbox live.
More specifically; i've read on tripod's (http://bt2700hgv.tripod.com/ir1002700HGV.htm#New) site that uPnP is not offered by the 2700.
Does anyone know if this adversely affects the NAT status for xbox live gaming?
ie -does it set the NAT to 'strict' or 'moderate' status, rather than the desired 'open' status, therefore impacting user comms and matchmaking availability.
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks
Hi and welcome to the forum. :welc: :karma:
I'm not a gamer, but help will be along shortly.
:welc: :karma: Take a look here (http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/2wire/BT2700HG-V/BT2700HG-Vindex.htm) it will tell you how to open the ports on the router to allow the xbox through.
Thanks for the welcome and the advice.
I'll give it a go when the router arrives.
cheers :thumb:

:welc: Good luck with the 2700! :thumb:
Thanks all for being so welcoming.
Router arrived yesterday. I was curious to see what that NAT status would be before conducting the port forwardding exercise, so i plumbed it all in and ran the network test on the xbox... to my surprise there was no yellow triangle with exclamation mark returned (which is the indicator for a moderate or strict NAT status).
I loaded up COD MW2 and went into the multi-player lobby, where there is a NAT status display... and there it was, NAT status: Open.
All without port forwarding or uPnP settings being available on the router.
Great news, thought it would be good to share the results.
Cheers
:)
Got to admit though... i am curious to the reasons why the NAT is open wihout any intervention.
So if there is anyone technical out there who has the answer, i'd be interested to know.
Thanks
Hopefully Alan will know the answer BTW where any other devices active at that time?

What version is the firmware ?
Vn 5.29.117.6 did have uPnP support, and you can't disable it. I discovered this when I noticed that Skype on my Linux box somehow managed to open ports without my intervention. It could only be uPnP, but ,as you, I believed that the 2700 didn't have uPnp support!. Anyway I got hold of some uPnP testing s/w and tried it and sure enough the 2700 responded and supported uPnP. Tried it with my spare 2700 running 5.29.107.12 and that doesn't.
I don't think V6 has uPnp but as I don't have one I can't prove that one way or the other...
BTW if it is 5.29.117.6 and you want to hang on the the uPnP you might want to ensure it doesn't get upgraded to v6, check the tripod site here http://bt2700hgv.tripod.com/032.htm for details on doing this.

Yes, PC (standard broadband connection) and laptop (VPN through to work domain).

Firmware Version: 6.1.1.48.1-enh.tm
So looks like the hidden uPnP of v5 has been carried across?!
Going to give it a proper user acceptance test ;) tonight
Will report back next week.
cheers
There is some UPnP test software on this page I used it a while ago
http://noeld.com/programs.asp?cat=dstools
The other is UPnPTest.exe-Google
Thanks for jogging my memory Steve, I'm pretty sure it was UpNpTest that I used.
I've also used this one recently, it works well but only on Mac OS X

When I get a chance, I'll test my v6 router :)
Finally remembered to log back on to the forum and post my test results.
Good news; NAT still showing as open and i've spent many hours playing Modern Warfare 2 multi-player without any problems at all. Good speech quality, no drop outs, able to connect and play with anyone, no lag.
Happy Days...
Apart from the little itch that i can't scratch; if the router doesn't support uPnP my NAT should be set to strict or moderate.
Like i say 'Happy Days' that everything is working great, so i'm not to bothered about the unanswered question, but if anyone does know why it would be good to know.
cheers and thanks for all your help. :thumb:
