Title: Noise margin,
Post by: adamr8965 on Jan 24, 2010, 10:17:50
Hey all is it better to have a low noise margin or higher one, mine is varying around 7db upto 10.7db.

Some good information on noise margin and adsl line stats here (http://kitz.co.uk/adsl/linestats.htm) Adam.

Essentially, with Max or WBC, Adam, it depends on your sync speed. If you're syncing at 8128, and I think you may be, then the larger the figure the better.

yes im sync speed of 8128, on max currently around 9.5db now updated the firmware on the router and this is the speed showing now on the tester, not bad for 1.5km from the exchange!!!!

When you do, you should easily get 20M.

Yeah hope so rung support last week, no sign of it yet. although kingston comm's are cabled in the town, would get the full 24mb, but heard lots of bad reports about them.

To be avoided like the plague...  ;)

Hmm could wait till fttc is here around the year 2355

I've been told I'll get it here next year, but there's nothing official from BT yet. With the aluminium infrastructure in Milton Keynes, rolling out FTTC here early would make sense, imo, and I'm only 213m from the cabinet.

by cabinet do you mean the green box on the side of the road? if so i'm about 20m from ours.

Yes, though it won't necessarily be the one used for FTTC.

Not particularly. I often get this speed on giganews, namesco and speedtest.net. Probably due to what I suspect is a newish line to the house(underground) and very little contention as advised by a bt friend.
My specs are 8128/448
Att 20 and snr 15.
Download zen test files @ well over 800 at any time.
Looking forward to adsl2+ in March but will probably hang fire a week or two whilst others around me give things a whirl.
Chappy just down the road is on Sky and his speed drops to 0.5 during the evenings and he's on the same cable as me!! (Nowt like having the life throttled out of your router is there?)
