Firefox 3.6 has now gone final - Find the new version HERE (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/upgrade.html)
Installed ;D seems to be ok on the Mac
Updating. Thanks, Alan. :thumb:
Is it my imagine, or is the dictionary now producing a bolder, wavier, red line under misspelt words?
I wouldn't know ;D :out:
;D
I'm convinced, even if it still can't check grammar. :)
I've spotted another change, when you open a new tab from an existing one, it places the new tab next to the existing tab, regardless of whether another tab is already open, ie 1-2-3 has become 1-3-2. Logical really.
I have gone back to 3.5.7
When I select a bookmark a blank page opens, when I click the bookmark again the page opens normally in the empty tab.
No doubt one of my Addons is causing the problem
All working OK here, and yes the red line is bolder I think Rik, Seems ok so far on my Mac, no issues with blank bookmarks but I don't use that many add ons.
I should've seen that coming - downloaded a full 3.5.7 install yesterday whilst rebuilding my old gaming PC to be my new workstation. Always ensures instant obsolescence. ::) :D

Seems fine, not that much hay though, or horses ;)
Using quite a bit less ram on my Mac as well so far, time will tell

I am not going to bother, as apparently once again my Norton Toolbar will not work with it, so I am not going down that route again until the problem is fixed.
Colin
Only difference here is my favourite skin doesn't work.
Plugins tend to come in pretty fast - I've been using the RC for several weeks and reached the point where I forgot I was using a beta version.
Grab it - dump Norton :)
Steve
Its definitely faster, and now they will add new features instead of just security fixes, first is the one to isolate bad boy plugins, yes Adobe!
Updated, all working fine. :thumb:
Any reasons I should go back to using FF on a Mac as opposed to Safari?

You don't need an input manager to hack safari to stop ads, ;D Its faster than 3.5 but Safari is faster, I just think FF has a better system of good add ons, 3.6 also will be adding new features in updates rather than incremental security patches alone, have a play, for me Safari does not work with my bank which is a pain, and I have just become accustomed to its interface, Safari does some odd stuff when you try to use the dreaded green button when a web page does not fit as well, but if you are happy with Safari then not really tbh. :)
I ended when using FF with a multitude of add-ons, many I never used, some I would think have negative impact on performance. At least Safari has little or no frills to attach.
But frills suit you so much, Steve. ;)

I think Safari is great, but there are a couple of things that it can't do but Firefox can. These are: start searching when typing (can be added to Safari with Glims) and Ctrl+S to submit a form.
For me Firefox is accepted at my bank, Safari isn't, that's a biggy and I wont use SIMBL to hack Safari to stop ads with the current ad blockers, also the easy privacy sub for Adblock plus cant be used from what I am aware. I cannot see Apple implementing ad blocking when they have just bought an ad company either....
Just downloaded and installed Firefox and I must admit it a lot better than past versions. I will run it along side IE8 and see how I get on, after all the praise on here I should at least try it and give it a fair chance. ;D
I have found 3.6 slightly faster than 3.5. I love AdBlock Plus . Available Here (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865)
I hate using IE8....... Just slow for me and full of adds..... ;D

Norton Internet Security 2010 is now brilliant compared to their previous versions, you do not notice it at all in system performance and it came top along with Kaspersky in a recent survey. I use their Toolbar for all my secure logins as it is very secure and very convenient.

I think like Kaspersky I hate any AV that takes over a machine and dictates what you can and cannot useb on it, Norton is the same, and I hate toolbars, but Norton is top notch now, tbh you could juts use prevx and get away with that really on a Windows box, would appear prevx is coming to macs soon. I think this is the year of full blown AV's for OSX as its popularity increases. If just to stop us passing on stuff to windows.
do you use the Personas with the new version.Whats the idea of them.can you still get Themes
No, and no idea, Baz. I like to keep it simple.
Me too - that's why I use Sea Monkey.
I always thought that was just to be different. ;D
No, that's using IE. ;D
Hi Seb.
End of day one and I'm getting fed up of having to switch back to IE8 whenever Firefox fails to open sites. Just wanted to check flight arrivals a Liverpool airport and it failed to recognise site. IE8 opened it straight away and this has happened on a number of sites during the day. :eek4:
I've never had a problem of that sort, Den. Opera, otoh, is often picky.
I NEVER have that problem with IE8 Rik and I'm finding it very frustrating after all the praise heaped on Firefox by so many people on here. I start to think what am I doing wrong but so far can not think of anything. ::)
Me neither, Den. OTOH, since I moved to Firefox, I've never had a problem with it.
OK now the next time I tried it it oppened alright, so why would it not open on a couple of attempts before? I want it to work OK and I must admit in general it does but I am not sure about it yet ;D
I wonder if you need to alter your security settings in FF?
I can't remember the last time I had to jump to IE for a site - can we have some URLs that are apparently failing. If they fail here I'll post a bug report.
Steve
BTW - have you tried IETab plugin - so you don't have to switch. It will use the IE engine in FF. Personally, can't remember the last time I used that, either.
I can't remember the last time I used IE either, other than for testing.

The only version of IE on all my XP 'puters is v6 although it's never been used because I've removed all the shortcuts and expunged it from the registries.
I've never had a problem with Firefox failing to load any sites.
Honestly, not a single problem. All my online banking and paperless billing is handled without complaint by Firefox and I've not yet experienced any issues which require the launching of IE.
Maybe I'm a jammy get...
No problems here, all my sites open just fine :dunno:

IE8 is a different beast to IE6 Drummer. I can not see anything wrong with it, I am just trying to give Firefox a decent run after all the praise on here. Perhaps others should do the same for IE8 over a few weeks. ;D
I can't help but notice, the Google opt out plugin is taking it's sweet time being updated.

Sorry for my lack of clarity Den but apart from the OS, I don't use
any Windows products on any of my computers which allows me the luxury of not downloading the endless security patches for software products I don't and will never use.
I download major OS patches and Service Packs in my own good time because that's all I need.
All versions of IE are more vulnerable to nasties than any other browser due to its ubiquity, which is one of the (many) reasons I don't bother with it.
IE8 is probably a great browser but I neither need nor want it.
Browsers aren't something I'd man the barricades to defend though...

I stopped using it, Adblock plus and Easy privacy do enough on their own, and my browsing seemed slightly faster without it Niall
I've never heard of easy privacy, wossat then? :)

http://easylist.adblockplus.org/ just click add Easy Privacy. Its from the same people that provide the EasyList, Niall. It ads privacy from tracking, web bugs and google syndication amongst many others
Oo I'll have a nose at that, ta!
just trying the new FF today.seems faster doesn't it.and yes the squiggly lines are thicker :D
Thanks for confirming that, Baz. I'm seeing an issue which may be the new version. After a prolonged spell of use, there appears to be significant memory leakage, and FF will fully load one core when you click on a link in the forum and a 'new message' pop up window appears. It takes about 20 seconds to sort itself.
havent noticed anything yet.is it a click on any link Rik or certain ones
It mainly happens within the forum(s), Baz, as that's where these popups occur on trying to load a new page.

I was seeing that on the old version of Firefox, but I haven't checked with this version. I removed a lot of things, but I have to wonder if it's anything Adobe related again as they caused a problem last time when they updated just after Firefox.
I don't use Adobe software, except Flash/Shockwave, Niall, but I suppose it could be them.
Yeah, it was shockwave I was thinking of as that was just updated. I didn't notice any problems on my mums old PC the other day when I installed all the latest updates. That PC hasn't got shockwave installed.
Actually, just checking my usage now as I'm tying this, I can see it's using 126mb dropping to 123mb so I don't think it's going up, although that's a lot of memory compared to the old version.
Thanks, Niall.
Cant say I have noticed that Rik, FF has always had high memory usage, now if it was Chrome or IE8 I could understand more as they have tabs as separate processes, saying that I'm sure after a few tweaks it will settle down, mines using 54mb right now, but I have seen that rise to 148mb with 6 tabs open, it does let go of some but not as much as it should when you go back down to one tab, which is typical FF, then again with the amount of Ram most machines have now days that should not be to much of an issue.
No, the RAM usage is almost incidental, Gary. The problem is the CPU usage, and it's only triggered by the new PM popup after I've been active for a while. I'd blame something external were it not for FF hogging the CPU at that point, and the fact it's only happened since I upgraded.

I have noticed when you fire FF up CPU spikes at 50% on my Mac briefly which is a huge jump, they have tweaked it to start faster and the tab that's on top gets preference as well, I wonder if its something to do with that?
Could well be, Gary.
Firefox 3.6.2 released.
Phew! That was close! ;D
I found that it wouldn't install from the normal 'restart Firefox now' screen. I had to manually shut Firefox and then restart.
I just updated then restarted from the link, it worked fine. :dunno:
Must be an addon at play...
I had updated to the beta which has magictronically turned into release version all on it's own :thumb:
They have brought forward the update from 30th because of the zero day vuln that had been found.

You have to re-download it from the web site or you will get beta versions later when new ones are released as normally you stay on the beta update service even if you seem to have the full version.
Some comments about various browsers and additional security possibiliites.
