A lad I know has been complaining today that this new update causes his PC to lock up so he's had to switch to another AV program.

Niall

So far mine is running fine. The previous version has run superbly for me for around around five years now without problem. If there is a problem Avast will sort it.....good company.

Just done a check and there are reports the new version may conflict with already downloaded AV progs which is understandable I suppose? :dunno: I will just have Avast 5 running on its own as I have complete confidence in their product.

Just installed it (it uninstalls version 4.8 for you). I don't think the previous version will auto-update to version 5, you need to download and install it. Runs fine with Ad-Aware 8.1.3

Avast needed a new interface, so this is good news. :)

Its a well known fact though Q that no one AV product can catch every nasty  :(

I checked my laptops install and it only auto updated to version 4.8xxx so I assume I'll have to manually install the new version.

I shall have a nose later. My laptops internal fan has started pulsing and it's REALLY ANNOYING. I don't know if the fan has been damaged by my cat jumping on it  or if it just needs cleaning. I haven't updated the bios on it, so it's not any power saving addition in the bios
