Title: Got a small issue...
Post by: PuncH on Dec 26, 2009, 08:38:46
Every day since BT fixed the Peterbrough BRAS this has appeared in my routers' log. Usually in the morning.

Sat, 2009-12-26 08:15:57 - LCP down.
Sat, 2009-12-26 08:16:04 - Initialize LCP.
Sat, 2009-12-26 08:16:04 - LCP is allowed to come up.
Sat, 2009-12-26 08:16:05 - CHAP authentication success

The whole process only takes approx 8 seconds so I'm not really sure what it is. Is it a loss of PPP? Sync? This has never happened before and my connection is usually up for weeks at a time without any issues.

Loss of Sync, sounds like your router is loosing sync due to snr, can you get router logs showing what your snr is? If the snr gets to low at night you will resync as you see, it could be the router but I would have thought you would see it in the day time.

Night time is when you get the most noise on the line, I would unplug the router and leave it for 30 mins and plug it bacjk in as a first result, but knowing what your snr is is the first step, in fact your full router logs would be great

Hi Gary,

These are my current connection stats.

Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
WAN PPPoA 1804 2250 0 100 372 01:12:15
LAN 10M/100M 133443 92142 0 133 52 62:14:20
WLAN 11M/54M 207697 171874 0 608 147 62:14:11

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 14335 kbps 888 kbps
Line Attenuation 15.5 db 6.2 db
Noise Margin 16.8 db 10.5 db

The noise margin has shot up recently, it's normally around 11 or 12. Nothing new has been introduced into the house that would cause noise.

Loss of sync would push up your noise margin for stability but have you dropped your connection speed at all? I am not super aware of the profiling system of WBC, Rik will be able to glance over these more. Try doing a BT Speedtest, and posting results from the test socket, and see if anything changes. I cannot imagine you would lose so much SNR that it would drop at night though, is there anything that kicks off at the same time? Household stuff or lighting outside etc? Also is it possible to test with a different router.

What Gary says, Jonathan. If it's any consolation, I've lost my connection completely atm.

Small update:-

Connection has now been up 48hrs without any issues (fingers crossed).

Will keep an eye on things and if it stays stable hopefully the DLM will increase speeds again :)
