Title: Problem Running the BT Speedtester
Post by: wecpcs on Nov 03, 2009, 10:47:50
Since installing Windows 7 64-bit and having to recently purchase a new router, I have been unable to complete the BT Speedtester test. It intially comes up with my profile of 6500 (before my interleaving was turned off) and completes its first test but then stalls with an exception error and only gets as far as 96% and that's it. Brian on support told me update my Java plug-in, but that is already up to date. I have tried it on IE8 as well as the latest Firefox. I have tried turning off all over PC's and running apps and even turned off Norton 10's firewall and AV, all with the same result. I have even tried running it from my Windows Home Server with the same result, so I am coming to the conclusion it must be a setting in my new Billion Bipac 8402NX router, as it does have a very complex menu structure. I always used to be able to access the tester on my failed Netgear DG834G v4, but I had never tried it since BT updated their tester.
Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Colin

Sorry, Colin, I haven't tried Win7 and I don't know that router. :( Do you have an alternative machine you could try from?

Yes, same router, different browsers, viruscan on/off, firewall on/off nothing seems to work , it just hangs halfway through :dunno:

I have tried it from my Windows Home Server to no avail. I will have to shut all PC's down and hard-wire the wife's laptop running Vista Basic in to the router, after first turning off her wireless access and try again. At least that would eliminate the OS out of the equation, because it used to run when I was running Vista 32-bit.

Thanks

It doesn't appear to be a problem with Windows 7 64 bit, Colin, I've just successfully run a test using this, my router is a Speedtouch 585 v6.

Sorry, I got the model number incorrect, it should have said Billion Bipac 7402NX. I have left a question on the Billion support site, so maybe there may be a solution. They have already found the solution to enabling the S-1/2 mode which the Netgear had but the Billion did not appear to have, which would have given me my 8128 sync without disabling interleaving. Still at least if interleaving ever gets turned back on at the exchange for any reason, I will now how to get it back.

This is the fix:
This feature can be found in the ADSL mode. You click open the code gain you will see the select below 'Auto'.

Advanced > Configuration > WAN > ADSL Mode > Code Gain > inc0_5

Not exactly obvious is it. ???

Ditto, on Vista, I've also tried a different modem with the same result.
