Title: Skyplayer and Bandwidth
Post by: PuncH on Oct 31, 2009, 21:16:18
Hello all,

Hope you are all well!

Just had the skyplayer update sent through to my xbox 360 so I can now watch sky tv through my xbox. I was wondering however if any of you geniuses (genii?) out there know roughly how much an hour of tv would equate to as a download?

I'm a bit concerned I shall be chewing through my download allowance in double quick time otherwise!

I have no idea I'm afraid, you could work out a rough estimate, by using it for an hour, whilst monitoring the bandwidth usage.

It depends on a number of factors including compression ratio. A ballpark figure for 1 hour would be around 600MB. If it's in high definition you can double that figure.

It's possible depending on the source, BBC HD on iPlayer for example works out at around 2x in general as they steam in 720p. Sky is a little more complicated as they broadcast in two HD formats including 1080i (which probably would be nearer 4x) but I'm not sure how that translates to an Xbox.
