Title: revert back to ADSL from ADSL2+
Post by: joll200x on Oct 29, 2009, 21:17:35
Howdy,

Having given ADSL2+ a few months to get its act together on my connection - it's failed miserably :(
Does anyone have any idea how I can get back to standard a standard ADSL connection? By comparison it was sooo much more stable and I wish I'd never moved to ADSL2+. I've got a nasty feeling my only option will be to get a new line connected and cancel my current line (which isn't going to be cheap I imagine).

Mucho thanks

It seems BT won't revert you, but will put an 8Mb 'cap' on the line to assimilate the old Max service, as I understand it.

You're cometely right, Simon.

Indeed, I'm not even sure if a new line would do the trick as i'm not sure if BT still connect users to a dslam. Support will be able to give the answer!

Talk to support, Joll. Things are getting better almost daily as BT are desperately trying to catch up with demand and are getting a lot of flak from ISPs. It's my belief that, by the end of the year at the latest, WBC will be a good product. I remember the introduction of Max, that caused much more pain. FWIW, I've seen my line improve from an initial 3Mb with WBC to 4Mb, 4.5Mb on a good day. Pings have dropped and throughput, after a couple of spells of problems, has picked up.

thanks for all the suggestions guys.

I'm sure BT would love to get everyone on ADSL2+ to cap their connections!! My problem is I can't get anywhere near that so would be pretty pointless. If the line is on ADSL2+ it's still going to be uber sensitive to noise, wind direction, day of the week and whether or not I'm doing a voodoo dance in the front garden (not the same as me prodding my voodoo 'BT Doll' daily).
I might give support a call in the week but I don't want to waste their time when there are people with flakier connections than mine.

You won't be wasting their time.  That's what they're there for.  :)
