Title: Errors
Post by: Bill on Oct 29, 2009, 19:39:09
Since IDNet CS got my target SNRM down to something civilised, I've been keeping a more than usually nervous eye on my router stats...

It's been pretty stable so far, but some of the error figures are intriguing:

Over a 24 hour period, approx six million FEC errors, fourteen thousand CRC errors. Not much of a problem.

I noticed that when a phone call was being made, the error count went up noticeably more rapidly, so I've put dual filtering on.

But the router also reports what appear to be error counts reported by the MSAN... they're usually zero, as befits the lower frequencies used for upstream traffic, but during the phone call they rose a bit. A few minutes later they were back at zero again.

To me, this implies that the exchange kit is monitoring error rates, not total errors, a sensible approach which could well be followed by the router!

Anyone got any comments, or reliable info on what is actually monitored at the exchange?

Check with support, Bill - and maybe change that phone. ;)
