Hey Everyone,
Been a very long term IDNet customer and always been happy with their service and support. I had been on the Home Max package for 99% of that time, but recently decided to upgrade to ADSL2+. What a mistake that was!
Ever since my upgrade, every evening at around 7pm onwards, my internet becomes unuseable. I mean so bad, I can't even open web pages, let alone use XBox Live or anything else that uses higher traffic.
I have spoken to IDNet and they are saying it's due to BT being over capacity on our exchange. I was told to wait a few weeks... Well, over a month has past and nothing has gotten better. Unfortunately for me (but not for them) my two friends that I recommended to IDNet have perfect ADSL2+ connections :(
Anyone else having this problem? How long waiting for this to be sorted is too long? I've been with IDNet for a bloody long time, and don't really want to leave, but I just can't carry on like this!

The new hostlink is due to launch in the next few days, which we are hoping will rectify a lot of these problems.

Hi, along with what Simon said, contact support, they maybe able to get BT to look at the problem, as several ADSL2+ migrants had problems that only BT could fix.

It's a new way on non-ADSL2+ customers being connected which will bypass the old centrals, Baz, and solve the problems for Max customers. In addition to being able to add more capacity within a few days, it also has built in redundancy, the service is delivered over 2 pipes, one in use and one to fallback to if there's a problem with the main pipe.
Sadly, it won't help anyone on WBC, the issues there have been caused by BT misconfiguring the service, and it's taking time to get it put right. That said, I've gone from 2M profile on Max (2.5 with a following wind) to 4-4.5M on WBC, after a few weeks of pain.

If the exchange is congested you're stuck with it. That was my problem too. I went with an LLU provider and the problem is fixed for me. Do you have that option?
Thanks Rik. whats the reason/cause of high ping times then. Seemed a bit slow today and have noticed same over the past few days, then it picks up but pings have been high when its 'looked' slow.You know just the general feel of browsing, you can see when its slower than what you are familiar with
The old-style centrals keep becoming unbalanced. Each 155Mb segment is delivered across two 77.5M pipes, and for some reason, IDNet find that BT's balancing is not working and one half of the segment is flat out while the other is idling. They manually re-balance as often as they can, but it's a constant battle. Because the hostlink connection, whether via WBC or IPStream connect, is delivered on a single gigabit link, the same thing can't happen.

Thankyou rik! That is a perfect explination of the problem, and I now think I understand it. It makes it much easier to understand, and wait for the fix. Unlike O2 that just say "a fix is in the works" :P .
I'll wait for IDnet to sort it (and for BT to install 21cn at my exchange) before I run away in a strop because the net is not working. It's great to find somewhere where the facts are explained.
Better yet, Ben, a hostlink has a fallback link, should the main link go down. :)
