Title: Some very weird problems
Post by: Marksfish on Oct 25, 2009, 16:32:47
My 2Wire was chugging along reasonably well before I went on holiday. Two days later I received a phone call from my Wife saying the connection wasn't working and the internet light was showing red. After telling her to disconnect it from the line and then re- connect, the light was still red. She made do with the spare router for the rest of the week.

Wen I got home, I checked the settings. Everything had defaulted to other settings, but from where? The VC Mux was set to 0 35, it was set to Bridged LLC, ATM PVC was enabled, no username or password, and wireless switched off.

Thing is, as a BT branded box, how has this managed to what seems, completely wipe out all memory from the router? Any ideas what would have caused this to happen? I have managed to get the settings back again, but had to do it several times because it would accept the javascript fix.

This isn't the first light it appears to have lost the username and password. Is it just a dodgy box, or am I looking at something and not seeing the light?

Before I went away, the version was 5.29.117.6, it is still that version.

Curious  ???

That's the same as on mine - is that wrong, then?  :dunno:

I was going to suggest yours had been updated, but then I read your last sentence, so it obviously hasn't.

It should be 0, 38, but I believe the 2700 auto detects at 35 for some reason.

Well, it all seem to work.  What about the Bridged LLC thing?

The page is not showing the VC Mux, Bridged LLC and  ATM PVC settings etc you are actually using, you are at the options selection page and you are being offered the default options.

The most likely explanation is a stuck PPP session.

If it doesn't connect after being unplugged for 30 minutes, simply re-run the setup wizard from the Home page, the Javascript fix is much less reliable.

Thanks Alan, and sorry to hijack your thread, Mark.  :)

No problems Simon  ;D

As it happenes, the 2wire has stayed at its most stable for the last 1 day and 19 minutes, with a sync of around 2700!! I normally get about 10-18 disconnects per day. Am maybe going to ask for the line to be downgraded from 2+ to 2 and see what happens.

Well, had the downgrade from 2+ to 2 and the problems continued :(. I have to say that the 2Wire has been of no benefit to me on my line at all and may well end up back on eBay. I got so fed up the other night after 25 disconnections/ re-syncs that I got out a Voyager 2110 that has never been used, plugged it in and got a really bad sync. Downloaded DMT and "tweaked" my snr to increase my sync. I now seem to have a rock solid connection around 2.5meg. I'd rather lose the 1/2 meg and have a usable connection.

Routers are very much horses for courses, unfortunately, Mark. What works for one won't necessarily for another, the 'chemistry' between MSAN/DSLAM and the router, for example, matter intensely.
