Title: Blocked SMTP with 1&1
Post by: Ted on Sep 30, 2009, 18:02:39
I sometimes use bigstring.com for one off online registrations and did so this morning with openpot.com. After quite a while, no email. I sent a test email using the 1&1 smtp server, the mail was returned with this error.

SMTP error from remote server after RCPT command:
host mail.bigstring.com[4.79.188.85]:
554 5.7.1 Service unavailable; Client host [212.227.126.188] blocked using rbl.orbitrbl.com; IP Black Listed - http://www.orbitrbl.com/rbl/rbl.php?ip=

Sent one with IDNet smtp server, no problem. 212.227.126.188 appears to be a 1&1 ip address.

I've emailed bigstring, no reply. any ideas?

Presumably it's a spam black listing, Ted.

I've had loads of stuff sent there in the past, never had a problem, I suppose openpot could be hosted by 1&1 as well  :dunno:

Would it be worth while contacting 1&1?

It can't do any harm.
