Title: an oddity on upload
Post by: coreservers on Sep 25, 2009, 19:15:42
have run a few speedtest.net and speed.io tests of late, and noticed that teh upload test creeps up and up, then when almost exactly 3/4 through it drops back fro .89 to .48 adn that is what it gives at the end. odd that it should always be 3/4 thru the test

The speed testers don't generally seem to have been adjusted for WBC yet, try the ThinkBroadband one, that seems OK, as does the Maidenhead server at Speedtest.net.

I have exactly the same reaction with speed tests. I have decided to ignore it :dunno:

That's weird.  I just tried speedtest.net and it was fine for me.

I've seen it happen several times before as well, and it illustrates why speedtests are sometimes useless. Often they give the speed at the end rather than average or even peak.

Which server, Ann? I find the Maidenhead works fine (Xilon.net) while the London one (Namesco) has the problem.

Which is weird, because the actual Namesco tester tends to be accurate.

Not for WBC uploads, Seb - it's fine for d/l speed, and it's fine with Max premium. Don't ask me what's confusing it. :shake:

As Core says, it gets about 3/4 of the way through the test and then slows down dramatically, as if it wasn't expecting all that data and can't work out what to do with it. My guess, given that other sites are OK, is that it's not detecting the upstream speed correctly when setting the test up. On TB, they do a pre-test to decide how much data to use.

Yep, that sounds likely.
